An updated version of the highly likable Nokia 6600 slide has officially been announced to the public. At first glance, it would hardly seem a big thing, as the Nokia 6600i shares its name with the original device, however besides the new outfits, there is now a more serious upgrade in the imaging department.
The Nokia 6600i has all the features of its predecessor. The 2.2-inches TFT display, 3G support, Bluetooth, microSD card slot and FM radio are all here. There is also an accelerometer for tap commands for basic managing of calls and alerts. The retail box as usual includes a 1GB memory card

The only difference which comes with 6600i is the 5 megapixel camera sensor instead of the 3.2 MP previous one. The video recording and the flash however have stayed unchanged - VGA@15fps and a dual-LED unit.
Nokia claims the 6600i is the smallest 5MP slider in the world. Its body, like the 6600, is metallic, this time with the oh-so-trendy brushed metal look. We liked the Nokia 6600 slide, we think we dig the successor as well.
The Nokia 6600i slide is scheduled to hit market sometime in Q3 this year at a reasonable price of 200 euros.

My Phone is the latest WinMo service by Microsoft allowing users to backup their phone files and personal info online. The service was launched back in February, but it's only now that it's finally opened to everyone with Windows Mobile devices without the bugging invitation procedure - all you need to access it is a Windows Live account.
My Phone can perform daily backup of all data on your WinMo device - from the contacts to the multimedia content. There is a limit of course and it's 200MB of storage, which we can say is pretty enough for the critical info.
The backup content can be accessed later online or can be used to restore your data to a new device if, for instance, you misplace yours.
In the future, the service will even allow you to change your wallpaper, ringtone and some more basic settings directly through the web interface eliminating the need to dig in the phone's settings.
Microsoft promise they'll continue the integration of My Phone with many Windows Live services such as Live's contacts, photos, calendar, etc.
My Phone most probably will be integrated with the upcoming, but already became popular Windows 7 desktop OS, and will be available as a standard option when you connect a WinMo device.
Ah, the time-honored tradition of spy shots brings us joy once again. This time it's the BlackBerry Storm 2. So what does junior has in store you ask? Well, slight cosmetic changes on the outside and rumored upgrades on the inside.
The Storm 2 seems to have traded up from plain, old clickable buttons to touch sensitive ones. If this is true, it'd be quite ironic considering the original Storm was the first phone with a clickable touchscreen. The sides of the phone have been prettified as well, while the back seems mostly unchanged.

As far as rumored upgrades of the internals go, the BlackBerry Storm 2 should have Wi-Fi and improved performance as the UI reportedly runs much smoother than the one on the current model. The camera is unchanged at 3.15 megapixels with autofocus.
There's also hearsay about a new approach to text entry and since this is an area quite important to all BlackBerries we hope it's true. Either way, RIM seem determined to get to the casual users, not just executives on the go.

Remember the previously leaked weird W7, which most people found quite ugly? Now it's officially announced and we must say it looks better - ugliness is no longer its key feature with the new black color.
The newly announced MOTO W7 Active Edition sports a 2.2-inch QVGA display, a 2 megapixel snapper, 3G support, Bluetooth connectivity and memory expansion via microSD slot. As you can see there is nothing special so far.
The W7 targets the sporty active people. It has a built-in accelerometer and features fitness applications by Motorola. In addition there is a pedometer app to count your steps and implemented gesture control to ease using the phone while on a run (an we mean that literally).
The Motorola W7 will be available in Q2 in Asia and Latin America in Black, Licorice and Alpine White colors. There is no word on pricing or suggested launch dates just yet.

The first GPS-oriented smartphone promised by Garmin is delayed again. After Q3 2008 and Q1 2009, we are now promised to see the Garmin-Asus Nuvifone G60 in the third quarter this year.
The Nuvifone packs a huge 3.55-inch touchscreen, a 3.2 megapixel camera, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, but on top of all that - Garmin promise full-pack navigation suite with optimized touch-based interface. Unfortunately, the G60 doesn't run a popular smartphone OS, but a proprietary Linux-based one.
You may as well remember that not that long ago, Garmin and Asus announced a strategic partnership for making GPS-oriented mobile phones and they even announced their next device - the Nivifone M20 - this time based on Windows Mobile.
The announcement of the Nuvifone G60 was way back in February 2008 and we were promised a delivery in Q3 the same year. But here we are with the same promise but a year later.
Garmin claim the difficulties around this device come with the reason the G60 is started to build from scratch - hardware and software, and the process is long and tough. However this February we saw a working G60 prototype at the MWC 2009 and it looked quite fine to us. Perhaps the delay has something to do with the global financial downturn.
Anyway let's hope this time Asus and Garmin will succeed to build and release the Nuvifone on schedule, otherwise it might just turn out obsolete before it has even made an appearance.

Yeah, you heard that right. The pre-order campaign started by Nokia USA offers the customers the upcoming N97 top-device at a far lower price than the announced one. Expected to cost about 700 US dollars, the N97 can currently be pre-ordered for only 524 bucks.
Paying a visit to the Nokia USA web place and preordering a Nokia N97 (black or white) guarantees you a very pleasant surprise.
To begin with, in the shopping cart you'll find a free Bluetooth headset Nokia BH-703 which alone costs about 85 US dollars.
The next surprise comes with the total price. Upon adding a Nokia N97 to your shopping cart, you automatically receive a 175 US dollars discount from the previously pointed 699 dollars.

Finally if you type the promotional code CARTP409N the price drops to the exciting 454 US dollars which compared to the old 700 dollars is nothing but the deal of the season.

Update: It seems that Nokia have taken notice and have fixed the promotion so that the bonus codes do not accumulate. Well, it was fun while it lasted, but hey, 524 US dollars still sounds nice, right?
So if you live in the USA and dream of the Nokia N97 it might just be the right moment to pre-order it. There is no such evidence for the moment, but it might be safer to act before someone at Nokia changes their mind and withdraws the promotion.
